  • Strawberries – Nothing tastes quite as good as fruit picked from your own garden, and strawberries are among the best of that delicious world. Pick a sunny area with good water drainage where you can keep the berries watered during dry weather. Strawberries need special care from season to season, but the rewards can be huge. A very popular, early bearing and easy to grow favorite is the EarliGlo variety. They are prolific, have large, firm fruit and typify that wonderful strawberry of early summer. Also, available at Stark Bro’s Nurseries or Park Seed.
  • Wildflowers and native grasses are a beautiful solution for those hilly, rough, and other areas where you would really rather not have to constantly mow or water. These grasses are planted in the early spring from seed. Unless you have done it already, spray Roundup as soon as the weeds and grasses green up in the spring. Another options is to dig out all unwanted grasses and weeds that you do not want to keep. Lightly cultivate the soil’s surface in March then broadcast your seed. Watering is not needed. Now is the time to order your seed. Visit the Wildflower Center to begin planning and find local and online seed suppliers.
