Follow these steps to protect the lawn from leaves as they fall to ensure adequate oxygen in your lawn:
- Mow with a sharp blade
- Set mower height to 2 ½” – 3 ½”
- Mulch-Mow
- This process works best when leaves are dry or piling up quickly
- Bag leaves if needed
- When leaves get so heavy they cannot be mulched, bagging is needed
- Bagged leaves work great as garden compost
- It is most efficient to empty your mower’s bag onto a tarp
- Raking
- Clean leaves from your lawn the same day
- Don’t leave piles on the grass
- Rain in the forecast?
- Clean leaves up before it rains to protect your lawn!
- After rain, clean the new leaves up as quickly as possible, before they settle into the lawn
