SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITH THESE SIMPLE LAWN WINTERIZATION TIPS

There may still be a few important things that could make your lawn look better this winter and save you time and money next spring. If you have any questions about these lawn winterization tips or would like a referral, contact us online or call Martz Bros. Lawn and Tree Care at (913)789-9333.

Lawn Winterization and Mower Maintenance

  • The grass will not grow anymore this year so one more mowing will leave your lawn looking clean and well-groomed for months to come.
  • Always keep the mower at the highest setting, especially for the last mow. The higher cutting level will reduce weed development, reduce frost heaving and crown damage to your lawn, and buffer soil temperature and soil water loss over the winter.
  • Time to replace or tune-up the mower. If you take the mower to a professional now you will get faster (and possibly cheaper) service because, unlike everyone else you did not wait until the spring rush.
  • Clean the mower of leaves and grass clippings.
  • Change the oil before putting the mower in storage for the winter.
  • Drain the gas tank then run the mower until it runs out of fuel.
  • Throw a tarp over the mower to keep it clean and ready to go come spring.

Sprinkler System

  • To prevent broken sprinkler pipes, winterize your underground irrigation system.
  • Call a professional for this important chore or precisely follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Hoses and Garden Tools

  • Detach garden hoses from faucets.
  • Turn off the water supply lines that go to all exterior water faucets.
  • Drain the water out of garden hoses.
  • Store hoses and hose-attachments, such as sprinklers and nozzles, in a dry location out of sunlight.
  • Store all lawn and gardening tools in a dry location, after a good cleaning.
  • Protect those valuable tools from rust and make them easier to use by sharpening, then wiping them down with motor oil and a rag.

With these simple winter lawn winterization tips, your lawn and gardening tools will be ready to go in the spring. If we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us online or call Martz Bros. Lawn and Tree Care at (913)789-9333.
